Camp Lorrain is changing!

Released January 4, 2010 Download this release in PDF format

For the last decade Camp Lorrain has been focused on improving its site and this focus continues. More recently we have been turning our attention to improving our programs and our services to the congregations of Manitou Conference. The Vacation Church Camp program is one of those improvements. However, as we listen to and attempt to respond to the parents of those who use the camp, our campers, we will offer the following changes in 2010.

Instead of camps that begin on Sunday and end on Friday afternoon, our camps in 2010 will begin on Sunday and end on Sunday. Each Camp session will be a full week in duration. Children will arrive in camp on Sunday afternoon and will be picked up the following Sunday afternoon. This is in response to parents who found it difficult to pick up their children on a week day afternoon.

There will be two Junior Camps for ages 8 to 11 (please note that we have increased the Junior Camp age to include 11 year olds), which will run one right after the other without a break, which means campers may come for either one or two full weeks.

The same will be true for the Intermediate Camps for ages 12 to 14, which also will run one right after the other without a break allowing campers to attend for either one or two full weeks. The Canoe Out-Trip Program for Senior Campers 14 to 16+ will coincide with the 2nd Intermediate Camp.

The staff will have a week off between the Junior Camps and the Intermediate Camps.

Because of very low registrations for Scamp Camp in the last two years, there will be no Scamp Camp in 2010. We hope that this need will be more than met by the Vacation Church Camp program offered through participating pastoral charges.

The Camp schedule for 2010 will look like this:

1st Junior CampJuly 4th to July 11th(Sun. to Sun.)
2nd Junior CampJuly 11th to July 18th(Sun. to Sun.)
Campers may attend either camp or both camps

1st Intermediate CampJuly 25th to August 1st (Sun. to Sun.)
2nd Intermediate Camp August 1st to August 8th (Sun. to Sun.)
Again campers may attend either camp or both camps

Canoe Out-Trip Program August 1st to August 8th(Sun. to Sun.)

With the additional two full camping days per camp we have had to increase our camper fees accordingly. Fees for all camps, including the Canoe Out-Trip program) will be $350 per camp or $600 for two camps to the same family. If you are sending two children to camp or the same child to two camps the fee will be $600. Camper registrations forms will be available in late February.

Please remember there is financial support to help pay these camping fees for those who need it. You simply need to contact the Camp Registrar. With this support every family can afford to send their child to Camp Lorrain.

Future plans (NOT FOR 2010) include the possibility of bus transportation to the camp site, but we trust that the above changes to the camp program will help a lot with transportation issues.

Please make these changes known to your congregations and the families of all potential campers in your community.

Rev. Dr. Bob Jackson
